Privacy notice
This notice explains what we do with the details you give us when you register your interest, and the choices you have. We've kept it short and plain.
Who we are
The Orbit School is a proposed independent school in the North East of England. It is being planned by Sarah Law and Joseph Law, and is not yet a registered school or a company. For the details collected on this website, we are the data controller, which means we decide how they are used and are responsible for looking after them.
You can contact us about your data at hello@theorbitschool.co.uk.
What we collect
- Your name and email address.
- The area you live in (or the first part of your postcode).
- Your child's age or ages. We don't ask for your child's name.
- Anything you choose to tell us in the optional boxes.
- The date and time you registered.
Please don't tell us about your child's health, medical conditions or special educational needs on the form. If you do include anything like that, we'll keep it confidential, won't use it for anything else, and will delete it.
What we use it for
- To email you updates about our plans for the school.
- To understand how many families are interested, and where, and the ages of their children. When we share this with others, such as the council or possible partners, we only share totals, never anyone's name or contact details.
- To read what families tell us they want, so we can shape the school around it.
We will never sell your details or pass them to anyone for their own marketing. Registering your interest is not an application for a place and doesn't reserve one.
Our lawful basis
We rely on your consent, which you give by ticking the box on the form (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(a)). You can withdraw it at any time by using the unsubscribe link in any email we send, or by emailing us. Withdrawing consent doesn't affect anything we did before you withdrew it.
Who else handles your details
Our website and its form are hosted by Netlify, Inc., which stores form entries for us and only acts on our instructions. Netlify is based in the United States, so your details may be stored there. Transfers are protected by safeguards recognised under UK law, such as the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or the UK International Data Transfer Addendum.
If we start using an email newsletter service, we'll update this notice and name it here.
How long we keep it
We keep your details until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. We review our list every 12 months, and if our plans for the school stop, we'll delete everyone's details.
If you email us
If you email us about partnering with Orbit or working with us, we'll use your details only to reply and to keep in touch about that. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in building the school, or taking steps you've asked for. We keep these emails for up to 12 months after our last contact unless you ask us to delete them sooner. If you send a CV, we'll keep it private and only use it to consider you for future roles.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us to:
- give you a copy of the details we hold about you
- correct anything that's wrong
- delete your details
- stop or limit how we use them
- send your details to you or someone else in a common format
Email us at hello@theorbitschool.co.uk. We'll reply within one month, and there's no charge.
Cookies
This website doesn't use cookies, analytics or tracking, and its fonts are stored on the site itself, so visiting it doesn't send your details to anyone else.
Making a complaint
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your details, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or on 0303 123 1113.
Changes to this notice
If we change how we use your details, we'll update this page and change the date at the top. If the change is significant, we'll email you about it.
